COMPOSER / PRODUCER

ABOUT

Janca is a trained South African composer/producer with a background in classical violin and contemporary voice. Her compositional style is diverse, hinting towards an amalgamation of classical, contemporary, and cultural music influences. She reckons composition is centred around musical storytelling, and, therefore, her style adapts to the story that needs to be told.

Her classical music training started at the age of eight. In 2018, she obtained Violin Grade 8 from Trinity College, London. She was a violinist in several orchestras and held the position of concert master in three of these orchestras.

Regarding Janca’s classical music training, she went on to study a Bachelor of Music at the North-West University in South Africa, where, amongst other things, she studied contemporary voice and music production. In 2024, she obtained a Bachelor of Music with distinction.

On the side of training in music production, she went on to study a Master of Arts in Music and Audiovisual Media at the University of Liverpool (UK), where she is currently studying composition for screen media.

2023 proved to be an impactful year for Janca. During this year, her first score for a short film called “As” (“Ashes” in Afrikaans) was nominated for best original short film soundtrack at the kykNET Silwerskerm Film Festival. In 2023 she also attended the SASRIM Music Production Workshop in Cape Town as a selected North-West University delegate. Furthermore, a fashion film called The Art of Collaboration: The Fashion Film: We Are, for which she delivered the vocals, was selected to play at the Berlin Fashion Film Festival.
